Réalisé avec un Canon EOS 7D avec un objectif 400 mm f/5,6, un doubleur de focale et une tête panoramique Gigapan Epic Pro par Alfred Zhao. Au total, le panoramique est composé de 12000 photos pris en un peu plus de 8 heures de temps

PORTLAND, Ore. – Jan. 13, 2011 – The competition to create the world’s largest digital photo was in full force in 2010. From panoramas of Dresden to Dubai to Rio de Janeiro, the size of these digital images exploded, and now a new gigapixel image of Shanghai has taken the top spot. The photo tops out at 272 gigapixels and, if printed, would be the size of more than 7007 billboards. Photographer Alfred Zhao shot the remarkable image of the Shanghai skyline using the GigaPan EPIC Pro robotic camera mount. Zhao was inspired by earlier record-breaking photos, including the 26 gigapixel image of Dresden, created by German photographer Holger Schulze in December 2009. At the time, it was considered the world’s largest image. One year later, Zhao’s image of Shanghai is more than 10 times that size.

“It was the gigapixel image year. I never imagined such fierce competition,” says Zhao. “This is not the end of my panorama journey, it is a new start, challenging the limit is an infinite process. New records will appear in the future, it is only a matter of time.”

Zhao shot the photo using a Canon 7D camera coupled with GigaPan’s EPIC Pro robotic mount, which took 12,000 pictures over an eight-hour time frame. With the help of GigaPan Engineers Randy Sargent and Paul Heckbert, they stitched together the thousands of photos into one very large image and uploaded it to the photo-sharing site, GigaPan.com.

Zhao’s image has been called the “world’s largest photo” due to the number of gigapixels it contains. Zhao notes, “The creation of this panorama is intended to explore the limit of photo equipment, computer hardware, network resource and various other contributing factors that limit the size of a panorama image. This is by no means a perfect image; there are many aspects to be improved.”

je vais me montrer acerbe mais quel est l'intérêt de ce pano ? en dehors de la performance informatique ? Parce qu'au niveau photo, le point de vue n'a aucun intérêt, les erreurs de stitch sont innombrables et importantes, aucun intérêt !

des maisons qui sont dehors, organisées en patés séparés par des rues et .... beaucoup de linge au balcon

Ce n'est pas faux, mais au moins il y a du travail derrière.. Je viens de passer mon après-midi a désherber et pourtant je sais bien que cela ne sert à rien. Je n'aime même pas l'ordre !

c'est l'effet du vignetage (qui doit peut-être être accentuer par le doubleur de focale)... si tu compte bien tu doit avoir 150 bandes

J"avoue que je ne comprends pas comment ce panoramique peut faire 272 Gixapixels. !

En prenant 12000 photos avec un Canon 7D (taille de capteur = 5184 x 3456 pixels = 18 Mpixel), le nombre total de pixel des 12000 photos est de 12000 x 18 Mpixel = 216 Gigapixels (bien inférieur à 272 Gixapeixels)

Or pour faire un panoramique il faut du recouvrement. Dans l'article, il est indiqué un recouvrement de 25 à 28% . Si on prend 25% de recouvrement en horizontal et vertical, le nombre de pixels qui se retrouvera dans l'assemblage final sera donc bien plus petit que 216 Gigapixel

J'évalue donc le panoramique HD de Shangaï à 120,9 Gigapixels !
