Mais le prix est à la hauteur de la nouveauté : minimum 950 Euros !!! pour un objectif qui ne se monte que sur un APS-C, je trouve cela trop cher.

Personnellement, si j'avais un boitier APS-C, j'hésiterais beaucoup pour acheter cet objectif. A voir si je ne préférerais pas économiser un peu pour m'acheter un Canon 5D et un objectif Canon 15 mm f/2.8 fish eye à 660 Euros

Sigma a annoncé mi-Novembre 2007 la sortie d'un nouveau fish-eye circulaire spécialement conçu pour les APS-C : il s'agit du Sigma 4.5 mm f/2.8 DC EX DC HSM.



A noter que c'est le premier objectif commercialisé pour les boitiers APS-C du type fish-eye circulaire. Cet objectif sera certainement très intéressant pour les personnes voulant faire un panoramique sphérique avec un minimum de photos.

Devrait être disponible courant Janvier 2008
Prix annoncé : 1000 Euros (1400 $)
Prix approximatif sur le marché : environ 850 Euros

Plus de 1000 euros pour ne faire que quelques pano sphériques, c'est peut être un peu beaucoup

Apparemment avec les capteur 1.6x on n'obtient que 160° de champs. Je n'arrive pas à trouver d'exemple de photos prise comme cela. Si quelqu'un en a ?
A priori on perd l'image complètement circulaire.

A ma connaissance, il n'y a pas eu encore de photos publiées pour cet objectif car il n'était pas encore commercialisé. Quelques exemplaires en monture Canon uniquement pour l'instant devraient être livrés en fin de cette semaine ou au début de la semaine prochaine à quelques béta-testeurs. Je connais un des béta testeurs et il sera possible d'avoir rapidement des exemples de photos dès qu'il aura reçu ce nouveau fish-eye.

Dès que j'aurais les informations, je les publierais ici.

Ci-joint un post vraiment très interessant de Roberto Gómez Torres trouvé sur le forum de WWP sur l'utilisation du nouveau fish-eye sur un boitier D300.


A few days ago I bought one Sigma 4.5mm Fisheye lens. Mainly to be able to create fast spherical panoramas with less pictures for stitching.

Here I want to share with you my findings, a sample and files for you to download and play with them.

1. The price of the lens.

I bought the lens on eBay where I found the best price after some weeks of research. The seller is located in Honk Kong an gave me a great service and help. Here you can find the link to the add on eBay and the price I paid :

2. The Nodal point.

I spent the last weekend finding the best point for panoramas made with this lens when using 3, 4 or 6 pictures.
Using "Really Right Stuff" panorama equipment I calibrated the lens distance from the tripod for rotation.

The method I used was pretty similar to the one found here ( by Dave Watts ):

The distance from the camera tripod mount to the point of rotation I am using for this lens is : 10.8 cm.

3. Diameter of each fisheye image.

On my Nikon D300 the Sigma 4.5mm captures a circle image with a diameter of 2,280 pixels very close to the center of the camera sensor. Since the Nikon D300 is capable of taking pictures with a resolution of 4,288 x 2,848 is clear that a lot of pixels are wasted.

4. The Camera Settings.

For this first sample I used the following setting on the Nikon D300:

- Manual Mode on Camera.
- Manual Mode on Lens.
- Aperture F/8.
- Exposure Time 1 Second.
- Format RAW 14 bits at 4,288 x 2,848 pixels.
- ISO 200.
- Metering Center Weighted Average.
- Color Space sRGB

5. Taking the Pictures.

For this shot I used a Bogen table tripod, a small Novoflex Ball Head for Leveling, Panoramic Rotator, L-Bracket and Slide Rail made by "Really Right Stuff". Only took 3 pictures, each at 120° from the other.

In order to discard any possible vibration or moving the tripod I shot the camera with a remote wireless camera shutter made by "Aputure". The camera was mounted in portrait mode ( something I liked a lot since for years I only took panoramic pictures in landscape mode ).

6. Converting the RAW Pictures.

Since RAW pictures can not be processed within PTGui Pro and are very heavy for Internet download, I am included only JPEG version of the source files with this sample.

First I converted the RAW pictures using Nikon Capture NX into TIF files keeping all the possible color information including ICC profile. Then with Photoshop CS2 the TIF files were converted to JPEG with the less compression possible ( Here I applied a value of 11 from the scale that goes from 0 to 12 ).

7. Stitching with PTGui Pro.

Once the JPEG files were ready I imported them to PTGui Pro v.7.5. Started with new values for the circle fisheye images with a 180° FOV, 4.5mm
and made a crop for each image with a diameter of 2,280. Set in the Control Points section one vertical line for each image, auto create the normal control points and optimized the values. Deleted manually some wrong auto control points and ready.

With my Setting PTGui Pro gave me the following values for my template:

- Lens Type: Circular.
- Focal Length: 4.473
- Focal Multiplier: 1.5x
- Horizontal Field of View: 182.3°

The only processing I allowed for the Source Images within PTGui Pro was the Exposure Correction with only the "Optimize Vignetting" setting Enabled. After Stitching using PTGui and Blending with Smartblend the result Equirectangular files has a resolution of 4,504 x 2,252 pixels.

That Equirectangular final image allows a maximum optimal cube face size of 1,434 pixels.

8. Downloading the Sample Files.

I have uploaded to my web site a ZIP archive with the 3 pictures in JPEG format, the PTGui Pro project, the Equirectangular file and the QTVR Cubic Panorama for you to play with.

The Panorama was taken at my small Home Office !

10. To Do list.

Tomorrow I will be making some tests taking 4 pictures per panorama and also will take some tilting the camera for 5° to 15° in order to obtain a better Zenith coverage.

Next weekend I will go out for camping and will test this lens at the outdoors, mainly I want to see how it works under the sun and possible lens
flares will show.

I made a test last night to review the sharpness of the lens at different apertures. I set the Nikon D300 to Aperture Priority, focus the lens to infinity and shot a picture with each aperture allowed with the wireless remote shutter to avoid any possible vibration. I liked the Aperture at f/5.0 , here you can download the series of aperture
images ( in JPEG because of the file sizes ).

Suite des essais de Roberto Gómez Torres trouvés sur le forum de WWP sur l'utilisation du nouveau fish-eye Sigma 4,5 mm f/2,8 sur un boitier D300 avec du bracketing et utilisation du logiciel "Enfuse"

Here I have some new panorama samples made with the Sigma 4.5mm fisheye and the Nikon D300. This time I made some tests with bracketing and the new Enfuse program.

Mainly I tried with some difficult and hard lighting situations. I am happy with the results. And the lens gave me (at least on this ones) very few lens flares. I have to try this lens more on some wide open skies.

For the first fourth panoramas I used four positions, bracketing at 90°each. For the fifth one I used three positions, bracketing at 120°.

A little about the place : on my last camping trip we made a stop on a small and beautiful town in the State of Mexico know as "El Oro" which in English translates to "The Gold". It was a small but rich mining town around two hundred years ago. At that place I found a nice Theater with 100 year of age and the house keeper kindly allowed me to enter and took a couple of panoramas. The panorama took at the Theater esplanade at first look would appear as bad stitched and not very well leveled. The true is that the building is blend at the sides and have a problem on the top right part of the ceiling.

The fourth panorama shows the room where the politicians of "El Oro" take the most important decisions for the town.

And finally the fifth one shows the interior of an old train wagon converted to a nice Café (coffee shop), at there me and my friends who were on the camping trip.

Ca à peut être déjà été signalé, mais je ne l'ai pas trouvé ici: je suis tombé sur un article de Michel Thoby qui teste le Sigma 4.5 et Sunex 5.6: voir Lien

Pour ceux qui sont fâchés avec la langue de Shakespeare, en deux mots, il n'est pa vraiment convaincu de la qualité de ces 2 optiques, mais reconnait que c'est la seule solution pour faire un sphérique en 3 prises avec un capteur APS-C (Exception toutefois des montages avec le boitier incliné)

J'ai testé cette optique et impossible de faire un 360x180 avec cette optique qui ne couvre pas 180° sur un Nikon D300...
